Yoni Egg: The Secret Feminine Tool

Our womb and yoni is our inner sanctum, a place to access our wisdom, our power. We all come from this magical, profound place. And yet, generally we don’t honor this sacred place, most of us use our wombs as psychic garbage bins,  throwing the emotions there that we’re unwilling to feel or face. It takes courage to make the choice to reconnect with ourselves, to honor ourselves and to celebrate ourselves as a sexual being. I admire you if you are reading this, to me it means that you have already started taking steps towards embodying the depth of  your deep feminine essence. I want to tell you about one of my beloved feminine practices – the Yoni Egg.

The stone egg practice to strengthen the vagina emerged in ancient China. For a long time it was a secret practice, only available for the members of the royal family. Since ancient times these practices have been used for improving the physical and spiritual health of a woman. These eggs are often called Yoni Eggs. Yoni in Sanskrit literally means sacred temple, and is used to refer to a woman’s vagina. How does it feel to refer to your vagina as a sacred temple?

The egg is an amazing tool that helps tone the lower abdomen and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic and urogenital diaphragms, which serve as a floor for all our vital organs. When these muscles are strong they prevent leakage of our vital force and sexual energy and help us to keep it under control.

PRACTICE WITH THE YONI EGG WILL ALSO HELP WITH:

  • Increasing perception of your yoni, control over the vaginal muscles;
  • Awakening your creative energy, passion and libido;
  • Becoming A LOT more orgasmic;
  • Gaining control of the perineum and all groups of pelvic floor muscles;
  • Giving a lot of pleasure to your man and helping him with ejaculation control;
  • Harmonizing your emotions and healing your relationship to intimacy and sexuality;
  • Reducing PMS, menstrual cramps, breast discomfort;
  • Reducing menopausal symptoms, by increasing vaginal lubrication and balancing estrogen levels;
  • Overcoming traumatic experiences of sexual abuse.  

 

PELVIC AND VAGINAL HEALTH AND TRAINING

It is possible to get extreme with the use of the Yoni Egg. In fact too much practice or too much intensity focused on creating more tone can actually have the opposite of the desired effect of more ‘vaginal tightness’. The aim is to make our yoni beautiful, flexible and toned and for that we need to understand how to use the jade egg properly. If we over-stress the muscles, we can create too much tension which can lead to atrophy and/or impede our delicate pleasure pathways and diminish or prevent us from experiencing our full spectrum of pleasure. At the same time only inserting your yoni egg once in a while before you go to sleep won’t do much.

When we don’t pay much attention to our vagina for prolonged periods of time, it does shut down, thin and dry out. By wearing the Yoni Egg regularly, we give our vagina the opportunity to exercise and therefore re-establish vitality and resilience. And yes, this is true for women well into their 60s, 70s, & even 80s.

Awakening of our Yoni asks for consistent, regular infusions of conscious touch. This is especially true for those of us who have suffered from trauma to this area of the body. Inside the vaginal canal there are reflexology points which connect to the heart, lungs, spleen, liver and kidney. By using the Yoni Egg, these points are stimulated, increasing their functions, which works in a similar way to acupuncture.

A FEW WORDS ON POST-TRAUMA RECOVERY

In cases of sexual trauma you could spend years talking about it, but it won’t shift tissues where the trauma is stored. Consciously using a Yoni Egg can be an effective tool both for changing the pattern of the cellular memory and assisting in regaining a healthy balance in the sensual tissues. Our traumas hold within them a doorway into our most potent gifts, as very often we have blockages in the areas that we are most powerful. This is where the link between our body and emotions/mind comes in. Although for a long time people have been trying to cut off the lower half and life from the belly button up, we are fundamentally psycho-sexual beings—our psyche/mind/emotions is deeply intertwined with our sexuality — one cannot exist without the other.

Many women find it very interesting that we are not supposed to have any pain in the yoni. Meaning that if pain is there – in most cases it does not have physical causes. Our vaginas can give birth to a baby – imagine the size of a new born baby. And the pain that a woman is experiencing while giving birth has nothing to do with the vagina. The pain has to do with contractions or slight movement of the bones, but it is not the vagina that hurts. Therefore, mostly pain in the yoni is psychosomatic and it has to do with repressed emotions or beliefs about sexuality.  So pay attention to these and bring loving awareness to your yoni. By releasing the localized pain, something will start shifting on the emotional level too.  

BIRTH TRAINING & POST-BIRTH RECOVERY

There are not many practices that teach women how to give birth. There are several Jade Egg exercises which directly teach us about how to birth. Yoni Egg practices are also fantastic for post-birth, it’s an amazing tool that will assist our pelvis, uterus, & vagina to quickly restore elasticity and return to a pre-birth state.  

ENJOY EXPANDED SEXUALITY

If you engage your will in working with the Yoni Egg it will translate into your sexual play with a partner. Once you have awakened your vagina in this way, you possess sexual skill that not only will delight your partner, but that will equally create more pleasure for you. These practices will teach you how to wake up our yonis (genitals) to experiencing vaginal, cervical, and uterine orgasms. And really it won’t take long until you notice the effects of the practice. And if you have a partner – even they will notice that something is changing. The key is regular practice. It’s great to try eggs of various sizes. The medium size of the egg is a perfect fit for almost all yonis, and you can have only one egg. What really counts is that you actually practice with it.

IF YOU DON’T FEEL YOUR EGG

Don’t worry, it’s completely natural in the beginning. Continue the practice and observe positions or exercises in which you feel at least something. With time your perception will increase. If after a month of regular practice you don’t notice any improvement – go for a larger egg.

GETTING STARTED

As a rule of thumb: start slow. In the beginning it is not advisable to keep the egg inside for longer than an average of 1 hour. Some women experience cramping in the lower belly or ovaries. If this happens – gently remove the egg and observe what is happening to your energy. Some emotions might be stirred up – observe and journal them if you choose.

BREAST MASSAGE

The best way to start the practice is by giving yourself a loving breast massage. There are a lot of Taoist techniques of beast massage and also you can simply caress your breasts and fill them with your love in  whichever way you like. This is great because it will lubricate your yoni before you insert the egg.  

STRING THE EGG

If your egg is drilled it gives you an option to string it. For that you only need an unflavored and preferably unwaxed dental floss. Make sure to use a new one every time you use the egg You don’t have to string it, but if you have concerns like: “what if my egg gets lost somewhere in the depth of my vagina”– the string is a perfect solution. This concern is not at all unusual. If you are one of the concerned ones – don’t worry, I promise you won’t lose it. The cervix (the neck of the uterus) is way too tight to let anything enter it. Another reason to string the egg is that there are some cool advanced practices you can do with it, such as attaching weight to the string and doing some yoni weight lifting.

Once you’ve stringed your egg, Lie down on your back and place the egg on the lower belly – it’s a nice way to introduce your egg to the body and it will also make the egg warm. Take this time to breathe deeply all the way down to your yoni, feeling into any tense areas in your body, softening them with your breath. One you feel that you are ready to insert the egg, place it with the larger end next to the entrance of your vagina and start moving the egg in slow circles, slowly letting the egg go inside. 

Always insert the egg by placing the larger end of it inside the inner labia. Another option is to start squeezing and relaxing your yoni, you will feel how a suction is being created and the egg is slowly being sucked in.  

EXERCISES TO BEGIN WITH

A really important note here: we really want to make sure that the the active phases of our practice are complemented by passive phases. During passive phases relax and let go completely. All these exercises work best if you repeat each of them for a few minutes. Lying on the back:

  • Inhale + squeeze the yoni as much as you can for a few seconds / exhale + relax completely
  • Inhale + bring your tailbone up / exhale + bring it down
  • Exhale + push the egg out – not too strong, so it doesn’t come out. This movement is similar to bowel movement.
  • This exercise is a great preparation for childbirth, and also for developing g-spot and squirting orgasms
  • Activate sacrum: bring your knees close to your belly and rock around the sacrum. Imagine there is a circle around your sacrum and you are rocking around it. Try doing it in one direction for a couple of minutes and then change direction.

Lying on the belly:

  • Shalabhasana Variation / grasshopper pose that you know from yoga – lifting one leg at a time as high as possible + inhale, then exhale bring the leg back down. Observe what’s happening inside. You are working on the sides of the vagina.
  • Shalabhasana full version – lifting both legs up + inhale + squeeze / bring the legs back down with an exhalation + relax
  • Bhujangasana (dynamic cobra pose)
  • inhale + squeeze + rise up,
  • exhale + relax + lay down.

Sitting:

  • Inhale + squeeze the yoni as much as you can for a few seconds / exhale + relax completely
  • Exhale + push the egg out – not too strong, so it doesn’t come out. This movement is similar to bowel movement.
  • Squeeze the yoni 50 times in a row as fast as possible. Very important to follow this with a phase of relaxation.
  • Visualize your yoni being divided into three floors: floor one is the entrance, floor two is the middle zone and floor three is around the cervix. Contract and then relax one floor at a time. This might be quite challenging in the beginning, but imagine how much fun it would be to demonstrate something like this to your partner in the bedroom.

Some other great things you can do with your Yoni Egg:

  1. Sleep with it – simply insert it before going to bed, and try to remember your dreams in the morning.
  2. Walk, talk, work, cook or whatever with it. Just remember to give your egg a friendly hug from time to time.
  3. Practice yoga or meditation with it. Your egg will make a fantastic complement to a yoga or meditation practice. From time to time squeeze your egg, but even when you don’t you might observe interesting results.
  4. Bellydance with it. You will love it! And no one else will know! In my classes I always add at least a little bit of bellydance. The circular isolation movements of the abdomen and hips simultaneously train the muscles of the vagina. And when the Yoni Egg is being used this is even more enhanced. Try movements like hip slides, hip circles, figure eight, vertical figure eight and shimmies!
  5. Hoolahoop with it. This works really well too, give it a go.

Be mindful of the body’s needs – keep the egg in for as long as you are comfortable, but not longer than an hour in the beginning. As you advance you can leave it in for up to 3 hours.  

REMOVING THE EGG

Lie down and relax, push out a little – sometimes this is enough. If you have stringed your egg then that’s the time to use it – gently pull the string. If you didn’t string your egg and it didn’t come out with the previous method move into a squat and push the egg out. If it still didn’t work – don’t panic, just assist yourself with your fingers. After that take a moment to relax and observe what’s changed in your energy. Could be a good idea to finish with a short breast massage to bring the energy to the heart, or breathing along the micro-cosmic orbit could also be great.  

CARING FOR A YONI EGG

A Yoni Egg is a sacred item, it should be wrapped in silk placed on an altar or any other special place when not in use. After use simply rinse it with water, make sure to clean the drilled hole then wrap it in a soft cloth. Before the first use or from time to time when you feel like your egg needs a deeper cleanse boil purified water, then place the egg in the hot water for about 10 minutes. You can add a drop of tea tree or lavender oil. You don’t need to clean the egg like this after every use. It’s not a good idea to boil your egg as the stone might lose some of its properties. From time to time just look and feel into your egg.

Occasionally you might feel that your egg needs some energetic uplifting. Then you can give it a sea salt bath, for example. Another great thing to do is leave the egg under the full Moon or full Sun to give it a boost of Solar or Lunar energy.  

PREGNANT WOMEN AND WOMEN WITH AN IUD

This practice is not suitable for pregnant women or women wearing an IUD as there is a risk of dislodging it from the cervix or preventing the contraceptive from doing its job. Regarding times of menstruation – it’s up to you to decide whether you are comfortable practicing with the egg or not.
